Middle School Night 2017!!!

This year’s Middle School Night Performance will take place this coming Friday, October 20, 2017.
All information about this activity has been distributed to students AND has been sent via Skyward email.  Some notable pieces of information about this event include:
  • This is a performance that does affect the students’  grade.
  • It involves all of the students of the Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble.
  • Permission Slips are due on Thursday, Oct. 19 (but, the sooner the better!)
  • We need about 10 chaperones for this event.  You can sign up to chaperone this event at the following link:

Millennium MS & Greenwood Lakes MS Pre-MPA Concert!

This Thursday the Millennium Symphonic BandWind Ensemble will welcome our guest, the Greenwood Lakes MS Band, to a Pre-MPA Performance at Millennium Middle School in Millennium Hall at 7PM.  The concert is presented as part of the students’ preparation for the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment (MPA) next week.  MPAs are events used to evaluate student performance as an ensemble as measured against a set of standards (“standardized testing” for band).  A panel of area band directors will be present to give advice to directors after the performance to aid in student preparation.  Consequently, this performance is extremely important!
This performance is free and open to the public, no tickets needed.  The itinerary for the event is as follows:
6:25PM    Student report time (to the band room)
6:30PM    Attendance
6:35PM    Warm-up
6:50PM    Take initial performance positions
7:00PM    Performance begins! (MMS Symphonic Band, GLMS Symphonic Band, MMS Wind Ensemble)  each band will be performing 3 pieces

MPA Approaches!!!

I hope that everyone had some amount of time to recharge during Spring Break!  I hope so, because these next 2 weeks are going to be very busy!  Student will be bringing home info today about the following events:
  • Thursday, March 30, 7PM- Pre-MPA Performance @ Millennium MS
  • Thursday & Friday, April 6 & 7, MPA Performance @ University HS (Orange City)
These events are required events (as are all rehearsals & performances) and are a significant part of the 4th quarter grade (so much so, that a student would have a difficult time passing the class if they do not attend).
MPA (Music Performance Assessment) is much like the “Standardized test” for music groups.  The key exception is that students are rated on their live group performance rather than how they do individually on a paper or computer test.  The concert this Thursday is occurring to allow students the opportunity to perform in an auditorium for an audience as a preparation for when they do it in front of a panel of judges at MPA.  We will also be welcoming the band from Greenwood Lakes MS to also perform at this event.  Additionally, we have invited area band directors to come and give comments to aid us in our final preparations.  This performance is open to families and friends and IS NOT a ticketed event (it’s free!)
Next week, both Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble will travel to University HS in Orange City to perform for their MPA adjudication.  The performance schedule is as follows:
  • Wind Ensemble: Thursday, April 6, 5:15PM performance time
  • Symphonic Band: Friday, April 7, 11:00AM performance time
Each band will be bussed to the event and will miss a portion of the school day.  Permission slips will be distributed tomorrow in class and will be due this Friday, March 31.  MPA performances are also free and open to the public.  Symphonic Band members will also need money for lunch for the day of their performance.  We will need several parent chaperones for this event (indicate your availability on the permission slip).
Parents, it is very important that students reinforce their parts by playing at home!  Please ask your student each day this week “have you played your instrument this evening?”  We will be going over many details in class that will be forgotten if they are not reinforced at home!

Choices Night Information

What: Choices Night is an opportunity for 5th grade students and their parents to learn about what Millennium Middle School has to offer.

Where: Millennium Hall at Millennium Middle School

When: Tuesday, November 1, 2016

  • 6:10-7:00 pm Performance; 7:00-8:00 pm Rehearsal

Who: Jazz Band & Wind Ensemble

Meeting Time: Students will stay after school

Pick-up Time: 8:00 p.m. in front of the Performing Arts Building (Please be prompt to pick up your student!!)

Attire:

  • Formal Uniform (Tuxedos, dresses)
  • Please be sure to have appropriate shoes and socks on for this event!
  • Those without ties & cummerbunds will be given a set prior to the performance on Tuesday. Additional Information:

Students will stay after school and report to the band room after group 3 buses are dismissed. Dinner will be provided. Dinner will be pizza and a drink. If this does not fit your dietary needs, please bring something that does. Due to the high volume of people that will be attending Choices Night, our performance is a closed event. There will just not be enough room for parents to come and view the performances.

Fall Concert Rescheduled Redux!!! (update 10-11-16)

Thanks for nothing, Hurricane Matthew!

First and foremost, we hope that you and your families are safe and sound in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.   In the grand scheme of things, it looks like our area was extremely fortunate to avoid the storm’s full force.  So, we are left to deal with the comparatively minor problem of rescheduling the Fall Concert originally planned for last Friday.
After much analysis of the various factors potentially affecting the bands’ ability to perform this week (exams, make-up days, family vacations, etc.), I am pleased to announce that we have been able to successfully reschedule the Fall Concert for this Friday, October 14.  Please see the description below for all details pertaining to this performance!

  • All portions of the uniforms are machine washable EXCEPT FOR the tuxedo jackets, ties, & cummerbunds.
  • There will NOT be tickets issued for this concert.  It will be a free, general admission performance.  (And thank you for all of the time & money you’ve invested so far this 9-weeks to set your student up for success!!!)
  • The concert will be on Friday, October 14 @ 7PM in Millennium Hall.  Student report time will be 6:25PM.
  • Encourage your student to prepare by practicing at home!  Please remind them that the success of an ensemble stems from how all members prepare!
